Congratulations to Tyler and Terri on earning their stripes. This was Tyler’s second stripe and Terri’s first. Joong Gun is one of the most important patterns to learn and also one of the most confusing to learn.

Unfortunately, the camera shot of Terri breaking her boards with a back kick was obscured. Below is Tyler breaking 2 boards with a back kick and a video of Terri doing Joong Gun and Tyler doing Toi-Gye.

Cael McCabe earns his red belt. In this post are videos of Cael demonstrating Toi-Gye, board breaking, and sparring with Tom Hill.

Cael performs the pattern Toi-Gye.

Cael breaks two boards with a back kick, and two boards with a cross-behind side kick. Keep in mind the force that must be generated to break 1 and 1/2 inches of pine wood.

Priscilla McCabe demonstrates the pattern Toi-Gye, a 37 movement pattern. Toi-Gye is the penname for scholar Yi Hwang, an authority in neo-Confucianism. The 37 movements represents the 37th parallel on which Yi Hwang was born.
