Oneonta Taekwon-Do is proud to be affiliated with Badra Bahiya Belly Dance troupe leader Caroline Huxtable.
Caroline studied, choreographed, and performed bellydance with the Pacific Dance Company in Bellingham, Washington. She has studied with professional dancers from Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and the US, including Amel Tafsout, Aisha Ali, Rossah, and founding members of the troupe Helm. She was also trained in traditional ethnic dances and clothing, along with zil (finger cymbal) techniques and middle eastern drum rhythms.
Now living in Cooperstown and teaching in Oneonta, Caroline is the founder and director of the Badra Bahiya Dance Troupe which performs regularly in the Oneonta region. She is enjoying the process of helping to cultivate a lively bellydance community in the area.
All classes focus on blending traditional bellydance movements from a variety of cultures and styles, including Tribal, Egyptian, and Fusion. By practicing isolations, steps, stretches and technical drills, the dancer will develop strength, flexibility, coordination, balance and proper body alignment. While the focus is on toning and strengthening the core muscles, all areas of the body are included and will benefit from the bellydance workout.
Classes include a drill section which concentrates on repetitive motion to improve fine muscle tuning and “body memory”. The muscular focus and mind-body alignment of this form of practice also promote a sense of joy, confidence and well-being.
To register for classes, please contact Caroline by phone at 607-434-3525.
