Alex and Christina were members of the first children’s class in January 2009. Over the past 3 and a half years, they attended an average of 2 classes per week and have trained in a sincere and dedicated manner.

The two were put through a very demanding day of testing; beginning at 2:30pm and ending just after 7pm. The test began with running at the local college, included kicking combinations, patterns, sparring and board breaking. Alex and Christina each also sparred two rounds against larger and older students. In addition to the physical requirements, a 1 hour written exam was passed to earn a black belt.

Alex, at the age of only 13, completed the requirements for adult black belts and therefore earned a traditional black belt. Christina, age 10, wears the traditional junior black belt.

In the video below, you will see some failed board breaking attempts. Typically edited out, they are left in to show the mental strength, courage, and perseverance needed to earn a black belt. Imagine taking your hand and hitting it against the wall with all your might. Now, do it again. Now do it a third time. Alex demonstrated amazing determination and commitment to completing his test. Christina, although successful on previous tests at breaking with a reverse turning kick, gave it her best 10 attempts before Master Mannion told her to stop.

All of the students at Oneonta Taekwon-Do are proud of Alex and Christina for their many years of dedicated training and wish them hearty congratulations and good luck on the next phase of their Taekwon-Do journey.
